Heart's Memory, a direct translation from 心忆 (xīn yì), literally refers to memories that are close to the heart.

It is a self-satisfying and meaningful Final Year Project that centered around my personal gratitude towards my father. It is greatly inspired by the virtues of Dad's personality traits and his attachments with his shop-house.

The project addresses the relationship between my Dad and his shop-house, a place that contains his motivations and perseverance for his businesses, interpersonal-relationships, private interests, as well as his love for the family. Rain or shine, he will go to his shop-house daily.

Globalization has taken a toll on Dad's traditional business approach. Despite the lack of computer knowledge and English proficiency, he never submits to these unfavorable odds. Instead, he spent more effort to clinch his businesses.

This installation is a tribute to Dad's endearing efforts to sustain his businesses for the sake of the family. It contains my personal expression of gratitude towards him. On a macro level, it serves as a platform to provoke busy city-dwellers in Singapore to re-look at the notion of success and inspire them to be grateful to people around them. This way, it may give our bustling society more human touch and warmth.
